I chose to do this project on 3 short stories by Hector Hugh Munro, also known as Saki. He is a British author known for his short stories that are usually satirical and commentary on Edwardian society and culture. His stories often portray young children or animals as the protagonists. They are usually looking to outwit older people who place some sort of restriction on them, not allowing them to be free. It is possible these characters are inspired by people in his life, as he was raised by his strict aunt. In Saki’s stories, we see how narrow minded adults are, constantly being outsmarted by children and animals because they think they cannot be wrong in any instance.
The 3 stories I chose are reflective of this theme, and feature a lot of irony, satire and a touch of mischief and wit. His stories can be looked at as commentary on the fallacies and hypocrisies of society at the time.
